An introduction to the Google Books Partner Program

When you submit your books through the Play Books Partner Center, you can: -Access your account information and manage permissions for your books. -See how many people have downloaded or borrowed your books.

  • If you'd like to sell your book through the Play Store, you can offer a preview on Google Books as well. This will allow potential buyers to sample your work before making a purchase.
  • If you have a book that isn't available on Google Play, you can offer customers a preview of it through Google Books. This will allow people to read excerpts and make an informed decision about whether or not they want to purchase.

Sell your book on Google Play

Play Books provides a platform for authors to share their content with a global audience. Our users are engaged and interested in books, so you'll be able to reach them easily. We also provide tools that make it easy to manage your book's visibility and growth.

We appreciate your interest in selling our digital editions, but we would like to remind you that you are welcome to sell them through Google Play and other retailers.

There are no fees associated with selling books on Google Play and your share of revenue is based on the list price you provide.

After purchasing your book, readers can access it through their web browser or the Play Books app.

Offer a preview on Google Books

Important: To sell an e-book on Google Play, a preview of the book must be available on Google Books.

Publishers and authors can promote their books through the Preview Program at no charge.

You can use Google Books to help readers discover your book. For example, readers can preview a limited number of pages of your book on Google Books to decide if they're interested in it.

They can also follow links to buy, borrow, or download the book, when applicable.

In supported countries, you can sell digital editions of your books on Google Play and earn revenue whenever users purchase your ebooks and audiobooks from the Play Store.

How it works for publishers & authors

You choose the book settings

Manage your books and sales settings in the Google Play Books Partner Center. Choose the countries where you want to sell, choose whether to apply Digital Rights Management (DRM), and provide list prices. Except in cases where Google is acting as your agent or where Google is required to sell at a price set by the publisher, Google has the discretion to set prices. However, we'll share the revenue from any sales with you according to the list price that you provide.

Google handles hosting, sales, and distribution

Your books are sold on Google Play, a digital content experience available internationally on multiple platforms. A limited percentage of your book will be available for preview on Google Books. You can download detailed preview and sales reports, and you receive a majority of the revenue from each sale.

You provide the book files

Join the Google Books Partner Program to submit books. We accept files in either .pdf or .epub format. If you upload both formats, readers will have a choice between the original layout of the PDF file and the text of the EPUB file.

How it works for buyers

Readers can find your books by browsing the Google Play store, or by following a link from the book's preview on Google Books. When they purchase your book, they can read it in their Web browser, or use the Google Play Books app. Readers can also transfer the book to supported e-readers. Learn more about the reader experience with Google Play Books.

We offer a base of users and an easy way to manage your content. You can sell your book both on Google Play and through other retailers. There is no cost for you to sell books on Google Play. You receive the majority of the revenue from each sale, and your revenue share will always be based on the list price you provide.

Important: Google Play partners can sell eBooks in certain countries/regions. These features aren't available everywhere. At this time, only select partners can sell audiobooks on Google Play.

Supported countries for selling books on Google Play

Columns are labeled as follows:

Country code: The ISO country code, used for sales territories and prices.

Currency: Book prices are displayed to customers in this currency. You can either provide a local price in this currency or use our currency conversion tool.

Seller sign-ups: Partners in countries marked with the ✔ symbol can sell books on Google Play.

While partners in countries marked with a ★ can sign up as a seller, selling books in these countries is limited to select partners. At this time, Google doesn’t accept new partners to sell in these countries.

In countries marked with ✘, partners can't create a Play Books seller account.
Purchases: Customers can purchase books on Google Play in these countries.
While a country may be approved for purchases, not all partners are approved to sell in all countries.

Payments: Google can issue payments to partners' bank accounts in these countries.

Payment countries marked with ★ are paid via wire transfer in U.S. dollars.
Newly created Brazilian payment profiles will receive payments in BRL. Some older payment profiles may still pay via USD wire transfers.

Although you can sign up for a seller account in South Africa, you can only receive earnings on a bank account located in one of the supported countries listed in the column "Payments." Unfortunately, the bank account can't be located in South Africa.

Promo Codes: Partners in these countries can offer promo codes to users in Play Books supported countries. Promo codes can be offered in any eligible country where partners' books are for sale.

Refer to the table below to find out which countries/regions Google Play Books currently supports.

We're working hard to expand Google Play Books internationally. If a particular country/region isn't listed below as supported, check back later as we may add it in the future.

When your book is available internationally, you can check how your book is displayed in a country/region or language.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If your URL contains "?": To add a country or language code, replace "?" with "&".
  • If the URL contains "#": Add a country or language code before "#".
